HOLY TOUR OF MT. KAILASH AND MANASAROVAR
Mt. Kailash, 6714m, is the most sacred mountain in Asia.In May 1993
the government of Nepal and China reached an accord that allowed
the first trek across the border between the two countries. Early
British explorers is visited Kailash in a variety of disguises,
and numerous individual trekkers still manage to make their way
into Tibet each year. This trek is possible only in the summer monsoon
season from May to September. Mt Kailash is holy to followers of
four religions. To Hindus, Kailash is the abode of Shiva and nearby
Lake Manasarovar is the Manas or soul of Brahma. Sprawling below
Mt. Kailash is the holy lake Manasarovar, where a ritual bath will
deliver a pilgrim to Brahma's paradise and a drink of its water
relinquishes the sins of a hundred lifetimes.
